THIS IS SO COOL. If you’re building a house and are not doing virtual design, WHY NOT?! For real, coming from someone who screws up a lot, you are making a mistake.

A few posts back, I shared my virtual design consult. Basically the team gets inside my head, takes the house plan, and renders exactly what my house could look like before we even break ground. This makes the selection process 100000x less stressful because you know how everything will flow together. Even bigger than that, this is incredibly helpful in regards to what furniture to buy, what to expect, etc.

THIS IS LIKE TEST DRIVING A CAR BEFORE YOU BUY IT. Would you seriously spend your life savings on a vehicle before you even get in it? No?! Okay, then why are you doing that with a house?!

Here are some of my favorite snips from the presentation, but I’ll also post the videos.

How did this help me?

• -I can compare shingle colors like nobody’s business and feel confident in my decision.
• -I had two different colored porch swings in my Amazon cart – a light brown and a black. I will be purchasing the black after seeing this.
• -I asked for them to put a bench at the end of the bed in the Master because there were a few I was looking at online. This confirmed I will not have room for a bench, and I should not spend money on it.
• -I thought about removing the 2′ from the island to fit a hightop kitchen table, but a kitchen table is likely not going to work. So I’m leaving that additional chair in there like we had originally.
• -I didn’t know if I wanted stone or brick on the front. I was definitely leaning towards brick on the front, but now that I see what stone looks like, there is no way.
• -It’s really hard to imagine what the trim, flooring, and doors will look like put together. This takes away any worries I had of it looking goofy.

I have seen so many of these videos and have always been impressed, but it hits different when it’s your own house. This is sooo much more than a tool to choose siding colors or flooring. From the porch swing that I have in my Amazon cart to knowing if I can fit a kitchen table, this is so helpful and just so incredible.

Spend the money. If you want to have regrets, then don’t do virtual design.
