PRELIMINARY SELECTIONS – INTERIOR

MARCH 27, 2024

Go back a post if you want to see the exterior preliminary selections otherwise, buckle up for the basic interior selections.

TRIM

For trim and mouldings, I just wanted something simple. There are options for designs and all the colonial chaos, but I wasn’t really into that. I decided white, flat, round edge trim is probably the way to go. Then there was the question if I was into full window casing versus drywall return. I compared below, and right now I would go with full window casing. The drywall return looked a little too commercial, which I mean the photo I took is from a conference room so yeahhhh…

DOORS

Drexel Millwork & Doors is the manufacturing facility in Jackson (soon to be Kewaskum). We’ve got doors at our fingertips. Here’s the thing though. I didn’t want a million options to choose from. And this is where I really appreciated Holden’s input. He knew what I had chosen for the exterior door (3 panel flat) and suggested an option that would go with that door specifically. Perfect, easy, done. The interior doors will be straight flat Poplar in Drift, 3 panels.

Here’s flat vs raised because I didn’t know what that meant.

Here’s the thing about Poplar that I didn’t know. It’s the most budget friendly option and the best option for painted because if you’re painting it, you don’t really care about the wood grain. Virtual Design will show me painted versus stained so I know what I prefer. Once again, I don’t know how people build a house without virtual design.

We’re also talking about BARN DOORS for the walk-in master closet on both enterances. Yeehaw.

STAIRS

For the stairs going up to the loft, the post and handrails will be the same color (Poplar, Drift) as the doors so they POP! We’re just going with plain black rails(?), rods(?) whatever they’re called.

Just as a note again, these are not final. These are just to get started for virtual design. I was concerened at first how the colors would clash with the flooring since I don’t know what I want. But I saw LVP hanging up the other day and really liked one of the colors call Rome. We put the selections next to each other just to see how they flow. Stay tuned for some VD.
