Operation Strawberry Box

BUDGET

OCTOBER 23, 2024

Now that things are really rolling and invoices are being paid, the dollar signs are real.

I did have a holy guacamole moment when I looked at some of the final numbers. The goal was to keep everything until $300k, but I’m pretty sure that will not be the case. Take that with a grain of salt because lots could still happen… Just my thinking.

So yeah, I’m anxious about the financial part of this, but it’s important to remind myself that it’s an investment. Everything I’ve ever spent money on (car, rent in college, tangibles, etc) has been a depreciation or just money lost. Has there ever been a house built that has come in below budget? If so, why’re they gatekeeping the secret sauce??!!?! There were a few things that have come up that we didn’t anticpate like a retaining wall for the backyard. There were also some things that came in less than I was anticipating, like the flooring.

Because it’s a rent to own, I will start monthly payments once I move in. It will take me about 4 years to have twenty percent down. Everything I pay in rent until 2028 will be used as my down payment. From there, I’ll take out a loan and purchase the house. I’m in a very fortunate situation where I have that option. If this opportunity had not come up, there would be absolutely no way I could afford to build a house on my own. If you’re in the housing market or have built/ bought recently, you’re my hero.

I will also remind myself that being broke is better than doing illegal things for money. Follow me for more tips and tricks.
